Mingnan (Lucy) DU

Mingnan Du is a designer, educator, and researcher working on participatory public-space design in high-density Asian cities. Trained at The Pennsylvania State University (BLA) and the Harvard Graduate School of Design (MLA II), and formerly a designer with Raymond Jungles Inc. in Miami, she is currently a Lecturer at the School of Design and Innovation, Shenzhen Technology University.

Her built work, teaching, and community-engaged research address a recurring condition in cities: space is provided, yet not appropriated — physically open, socially unclaimed, ecologically performative yet publicly unreadable. Working across the scales of community, site, and territory, her projects use participation and legibility as design media to close this gap.

Across this work runs a consistent exploration of space as a participatory medium — from theatre to gallery to city, and from community courtyards to corporate campuses. She is the founder of an independent design practice and the developer of Herbal Box, a modular medicinal-herb planter system for high-density workplaces.
